In einer französischen Wohnzeitung, Idee Elles, haben wir ein Bild von einer Kommode entdeckt, die zum Teil mit Birkenrinde verziert wurde. Wir fanden die Idee gut und entschlossen uns, etwas Ähnliches herzustellen. Die Birkenrinde haben wir gesammelt. Eine alte Kommode hatten wir aus einer Haushaltsauflösung bekommen. Dieses Möbelstück war, wie alle anderen auch, in einem nicht so guten Zustand. Die Kanten waren ausgebrochen, die Flächen beschädigt, Füße sowie Zierleisten fehlten. Zu allem Überfluß waren die Möbel feucht geworden. Doch Wegwerfen ist ja nicht so unsers, also mussten wir uns was einfallen lassen. Genau das richtige Objekt für unsere Birkenrinde.

Kanten beschädigt
Die Kanten und Oberfächen füllten wir mit Holzmasse aus und schliffen den gesamten Korpus mit feinem Schmirgelpapier leicht über. Da wir die Flächen in ihrer Naturfarbe belassen wollten, entschlossen wir uns die Oberflächen mit Wachs zu bearbeiten und zu polieren. Auf die Türfläche klebten wir zugeschnittene Birkenrinde. Diese Rinde sammelten wir auf unseren Wanderungen im Wald. Die Rinde ist natürlich gewellt und feucht und so pressten und trockneten wir sie zwischen Zeitungspapier. Die fertigen Rindenteile schnitten wir in 20x20mm große Quadrate und klebten sie wie ein Puzzlespiel zusammen. Das dauerte natürlich eine zeitlang, aber wir haben immer mehrere Projekt gleichzeitig.

Die ganze Kommode wurde dann nochmals gewachst, poliert und die Birkenteile mit einem Klarlack
überzogen. Jetzt sieht das schöne Stück wieder richtig edel aus. Nachahmung empfohlen!
